The tradeoff is lower energy density and shorter cycle life compared to lithium — but also lower upfront cost and simpler charging requirements. The four 12v/12ah batteries are replaceable individually when they reach end of life. If you want lithium, you are looking at a significantly higher price tier for this class of vehicle.
The battery compartment holds four 12v/12ah SLA batteries wired in series for 48v total. A LiFePO4 retrofit is technically possible if you source a 48v LiFePO4 pack with a compatible BMS and the same physical dimensions. However, we do not sell a lithium upgrade kit for this specific model, and modifying the electrical system would void the manufacturer warranty. If lithium is a priority, consider a lithium-native model instead.
